Games are analyzed

Every morning, overnight NBA play-by-play data is processed through a custom scoring engine that weighs 20+ factors like lead changes, clutch plays, and game flow.

You get a score

Each game receives an excitement score from 1–10. A 9 is a thriller. A 2 is a snoozer. No ambiguity — just a number that tells you what you need to know.

Smart labels tell you exactly what made a game exciting (or boring). "Photo Finish" and "Chaos Ball" hit different — and now you know before you press play.

Got questions?

Every game is analyzed using 20+ factors including final margin, lead changes, clutch plays, overtime, game flow, pace, and scoring patterns. Each factor is weighted based on its impact on game excitement, then combined into a 0–10 score. Higher scores mean more exciting games.
Data is updated multiple times throughout the day with analysis of yesterday's games. Scheduled games for today are also shown so you can plan ahead.
Yes! Swipe left or use the navigation arrows to browse historical games from past days. Great for catching up on games you missed throughout the week.
Absolutely. Tap the settings icon (three lines) in the top right corner to toggle label categories on or off. Customize exactly what information you see for each game.
Go to Settings → Favorite Team and pick your team. When they play a game that scores above the excitement threshold, you'll get a personalized push notification the next morning. You can turn this on or off at any time.
Yes! By default, the highlight button opens YouTube recaps. If you prefer, toggle "Use NBA.com Highlights" in Settings to switch to the official NBA highlight player instead.
Heat Report is an upcoming feature that will show season-long stats, excitement trends, hottest teams, and more. Tap the chart icon on the top left to see a preview of what's coming.

What Data We Collect

HeatCheckr is designed to be privacy-friendly:

  • No personal information: We don't ask for your name, email, or any identifying information.
  • No account required: Use HeatCheckr without creating an account.
  • Anonymous analytics: We use Amplitude to collect anonymous usage data (e.g., which features are used, app opens). This helps us improve the app. No personally identifiable information is collected.

Advertising

HeatCheckr displays non-personalized ads served by Google AdMob. We do not use personalized advertising and do not build user profiles for ad targeting.

Even with non-personalized ads, AdMob may collect certain technical data required to serve and measure ads:

  • Device type, model, and operating system version
  • IP address (used for approximate geographic ad targeting, e.g., country-level)
  • Ad interaction data (impressions, taps)

No advertising identifiers (IDFA/GAID) are used for tracking. You can learn more about how Google uses data at Google's Privacy Policy.

Local Storage

The following is stored locally on your device only:

  • Cached game data for performance and offline viewing.
  • Your preferences (toggled label categories, etc.).
  • Warning acknowledgments (e.g., highlight spoiler warning).
  • Ad preferences (e.g., banner dismiss cooldown).

This data never leaves your device and can be deleted at any time by uninstalling the app.

Network Requests

  • Our API server: Fetches game data and excitement scores. No personal information included.
  • Google AdMob: Requests non-personalized ads. Technical device data may be transmitted as described above.
  • NBA.com / YouTube: When you tap highlights, you may be taken to external sites. We don't control their privacy practices.

Third-Party Services

  • Google AdMob: Advertising. Google Privacy Policy
  • Amplitude: Anonymous usage analytics. No personal data shared. Amplitude Privacy Policy
  • Expo Push Notifications: If you enable notifications, your device push token is stored on our server. No other personal data is associated with it.
  • NBA API / ESPN: Publicly available game stats. No user data shared.
  • Railway: Hosts our backend. Server logs may contain standard HTTP info (IP, timestamps) but we don't actively collect or analyze this.

Your Rights (GDPR / EEA Users)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the right to:

  • Request information about what data we process
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Object to data processing

Since we don't collect personal information or maintain user accounts, there is generally no personal data to delete. If you have enabled push notifications, you can contact us to have your push token removed.

Children's Privacy

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The app displays sports statistics and non-personalized advertisements suitable for all ages.

HeatCheckr is a free mobile app providing spoiler-free NBA game excitement indicators — scores, labels, and links to official highlights.

3. Free Service & Advertising

HeatCheckr is free of charge and supported by non-personalized advertisements served by Google AdMob. Ad content is provided by third parties and we are not responsible for the content of individual advertisements. You may dismiss the ad banner by tapping the close button.

4. NBA Disclaimer

Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the NBA or any of its teams. All NBA-related content is the property of the NBA and its licensors. We use publicly available stats for informational purposes only.

5. User Conduct

You agree not to reverse engineer, gain unauthorized access, use for unlawful purposes, redistribute, or scrape data from our API.

6. Intellectual Property

The HeatCheckr app, design, code, and original content (excluding NBA data) is owned by JDK Development.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

Provided "as is" without warranties. We don't guarantee accuracy, uninterrupted operation, or that the app meets your specific requirements.

8. Limitation of Liability

JDK Development is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages from your use of the app.

Links to third-party sites (NBA.com, etc.) are at your own discretion. We're not responsible for their content or privacy practices.
